Three-Day Week

Hello, guys!

I´m glad you all liked my Brigadeiro Tutorial 🙂

Oh, and by the way – Maggie was sweet enough to remember me something I should´ve told you after giving y´all the recipe:

Actually, in Brazil, brigadeiros are served in a small ball shape, a bit like Katie´s Fudge Babies. They´re normally covered with white sugar or sprinkles. They look AND taste amazing! Let me show you:

SDC11560

Ah, and did I tell you there are thousands of different kinds of brigadeiros? We have white chocolate ones, cashew nut ones… Basically anything you want 😉

(This photo was taken at my little sister´s 3rd birthday party. Cute!)

Anyhow. I´ll be short and sweet 🙂

~3 tbsp of cottage cheese with a sliced apple

DSCF2099

Morning Snack

DSC02531

1/2 package of Oats N´Honey granola bar

Dinner

DSC02537

Turkey Breast Sandwich with White Cheese, grated carrots and beets on a Whole Wheat Bread

DSC02538

Fresh orange juice!

And, yes – I hung out with grandpa and my cousins yesterday. Btw – I tried grandpa´s melted banana sandwich (cheese+banana slices) and I completely LOVED IT 😀

TUESDAY

In the mix: grated carrots, sliced heart-of-palms, turkey breast and white cheese “crumbles” and pineapple chunks, with mustard sauce.

(They were outta lettuce!)

I loved the pineapple addition, though. LOOOVE fresh pinepple!

🙂

Dinner

DSC02552

Tomato slices, steamed spinach, baked sweet potato, 3 tbsp of beans, grated carrots, 1 hard-boiled egg and a slice of baked pumpkin

T´was good 🙂

Before I leave, I just wanted to share two things:

1- Tomorrow´s the beggining of my Easter Break! YAY! So, yeah. I´ll be travelling until Sunday. But I´ll keep taking my pics, and I see a giant recap in my future 😉

2- It´s so funny to hear what women think. Today, while I was showering (after working out), a woman started talking to me about the fact that she had forgotten her socks. We started chatting, and she began talking about her weight loss issues. She told me she had already eaten whole wheat bread at breakfast, brown rice at lunch and two soy biscuits (or something like that) at snack time, so she felt horrible and fat. Oh, and she told me the only thing that makes you fat is wheat, too. I mean… WTH? I don´t know why eating brown rice, whole wheat bread and soy biscuits on the same day is a bad thing. OMG… I was so lucky I was on my way, leaving 😉

Oh, well. One last thing: I´ll miss you guys! Thanks so much for the lovely comments – you rock!

😉

Have a great week, and a terrific Easter Break/weekend!

XOXO

G.

Food Photoshoot + Brigadeiro Tutorial

Hello, puppets!

🙂

How was your weekend?

Mine was pretty good. Hehe. Let´s see…

On Friday, I had this party to go to. I was excited! Check out my dress:

DSCF2062

Cute, huh?!

Anyway. I decided to have dinner at home, because I knew I wouldn´t eat there… I know me.

Then, I did a complete food-photoshoot! It was F-U-N!

First, I decided to experiment:

DSCF2068

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl vs. Smooth Operator!

DSCF2092

Which one do y´all think is the best sweet potato topping?

I decided to give it a try…

DSCF2079

A little sample of each…

DSCF2080

With a sweet potato bite!

DSCF2084

Both of them were flavourful… But Smooth Operator was the WINNER!

Holy. Moly.

It tasted oh-so-good!

But I knew I should eat something else besides the baked sweet ´tater, so…

DSCF2082

My yellow friend showed up!

DSCF2085

I finished my baked sweet friend while a sprinkle of oregano, and…

DSCF2087

Made a banana hammock!

Katie, my friend, I´m getting addicted.

1 tbsp of Smooth Operator+ a banana = LOVE!

DSCF2089

Oh-So-Cute…

DSCF2090

And did you see the princess-y themed plate? It´s my sister´s!

😀

I have no words to describe Friday´s dinner, exept maybe for TERRIFIC. Haha.

The party was great, btw 😉

I spent the rest of the weekend at my father´s house – nothing too exciting. But I managed to have some nice chats with my 20-year-old cousin, my grandma and her sister – which was pretty awesome.

I woke up around 1 pm on Saturday, so I kinda “skipped” breakfast so I could have lunch with the fam. Hehe.

DSC02478

Steamed veggies, pumpkin purée and a piece of cooked chicken breast

I made dinner:

DSC02522

Steamed veggies, 1 piece of cooked chicken and a baked sweet potato

And had dessert!

DSC02525

Small pear

Today, I woke up around 10 am so I could study a bit.

DSC02526

1 container of non-fat plain yogurt with 1 crumbled granola bar.

Biggest. Bowl. Ever.

I had lunch with grandma:

DSC02528

Steamed veggies, cooked cassava (YUM!), piece of cooked chicken and a tiny slice of lasagna

And dinner with John (my 20-year-old cousin)

DSC02530

Cooked chicken breast, a slice of lasagna, cooked cauliflower and cassava

I love love love cassava!

😀

Anyhow – I bet you´re wondering about this post´s title!

Yes – I made a brigadeiro tutorial for you guys!

Brigadeiros in Brazil are almost as important as the cake in a party. They´re made with condesed milk, chocolate milk powder and butter. And they´re part of tradition!

The ingredients:

DSC02482

Chocolate Milk Powder, 2 cans of condensed milk and regular butter.

(These are the directions for a pretty big portion – if you want a small treat for only a few people, cut everything in half!)

DSC02484

1- Throw the condensed milk in a saucepan.

DSC02487

2- Pour about 8 tbsp of chocolate milk powder (or cocoa) – 4 spoons for each can

DSC02488

3- Pour about a tbsp of butter

DSC02490

4- Bring the all the ingredients (un-mixed) to high heat

DSC02491

5- Begin stirring

DSC02492

DSC02493

DSC02494

DSC02496

DSC02498

DSC02500

6- Lower the heat and continue stirring…

DSC02508

…until it´s thick.

DSC02511

7- Turn off the heat and let it cool down for about 15 minutes

DSC02512

8- Pour the mixture in a bowl (or any containers you want)

DSC02515

9- Ta-da! Just grab a spoon and eat! Or maybe wait a few minutes so you won´t burn your tongue 😉

DSC02517

And, by the way – licking the pan is always encouraged!

DSC02514

😀

Have a great week, guys!

Let me know if you tried this recipe!

😉

XOXO

I´m Alive!

Hello, lovely people!

Gosh, how I´ve missed y´all. You have no idea.

I´ve been studying non-stop this week. And the tests are STILL not over!

I have History test on Monday, Geography test on Tuesday and Literature test on Wednesday. Thank God for Easter break! Boo.

But, anyway. Let´s get back to where we started. When was it?

Monday. Wow.

Ok – moving on to Thursday! The day I was supposed to have a French test. More of that in a sec!

Breakfast

DSC02413

I remembered I still had this beauty from my trip. Awesome, huh?

DSC02418

By the way – HOLY YUM! This was Oh-So-Good.

DSC02420

I only had half of it – and saved the rest!

DSC02419

Two slices of pineapple, 1/2 Crunchy Peanut Butter Clif Bar.

School break

DSC02421

No comments. Speaks for itself 🙂

Lunch

DSC02422

In the mix: lettuce, heart-of-palms, olives, grated beets, turkey breast slices, soy meat and mustard sauce. As good as always 🙂

Dinner

DSC02434

A baked sweet potato with a veggie burguer and steamed veggies

Now, more on Tuesday. I was actually supposed to have a French test that day, – thanks for the good luck wishes! – but something BETTER happend. You guys have no idea…

I don´t know if I told you guys about it, but on November 2009, I took a French Exam called DELF A2. They have 4 different degrees: A1, A2, B1 and B2. All my friends were warned that they passed, but me. So I thought I had failed…

So, when Monica (my French teacher) said we would be getting our DELF certificates, I got so nervous. I didn´t know what to do! All I wanted to do was hide. My heart skipped a beat, and…

I got 92/100. The highest grade on my level. OMG.

I was SO happy! I wanted to cry of hapiness! You guys have NO idea of how relieved I was. I called Mom while at school break to tell her the news, and she was so excited! This is the kind of diploma that lasts forever. I couldn´t help but DANCE!

Hahahahaha. It was amazing.

Then, after lunch, something else happend: we finally went to that public school I was talking to y´all about. The social project?

It was the most beautiful experience I´ve ever had. The kids told me they loved me, they hugged me and asked me when would I come back at the end. I was in tears!

They´re the sweetest. Of course, making them listen wasn´t the easiest thing, but they did cooperate. We introduced ourselves, heard a bit about each of them and started a citzenship activity – we want them to learn about the rights they have, like the right to life.

And I still found time to study Maths and go to the gym. I was at a thousand m.p.h.!

😀

Wow – this is pretty big, already.

Here´s what I´m going to do: I´m gonna post the rest of my “week recap” later. Then, it won´t be too much. Ok?

🙂

See y´all soon with the recap and a few other news!

XOXO

G.

Don´t Get Me Wrong

Hey, there!

I´m so glad to hear everyone´s thoughts about the “Smile More, Eat Less” ad. So wrong, isn´t it? 😛

But, anyway. I won´t talk about that for any longer – I just wanted to get it off my chest. And it worked! YAY! Thanks, guys 🙂

Today was… an interesting day.

I woke up this morning quickly – which was a good sign!

Breakfast was yet another combo – I´m a bit obsessed!

PB+Apple+Cottage Cheese

DSC02394

3 spoonfuls of cottage cheese, 1 mini-apple and 1 teaspoon of Cinnamon Rasin Swirl PB = YUMINESS!

DSC02395

Oh. So. Good.

Morning snack was the same – Oats N´Honey granola bar. Always a winner!

DSC02397

Today was Physics Test day!

And, fortunately, I think I´ve done a pretty good job. Hehe.

Let´s wait for the results, shall we?

😉

Lunch was a bit different today!

Me and a couple of friends decided to have lunch on the mall. It was an amazing idea! We even got back by cab – which, splitted, came out for 50 cents per person (brazilian taxes inserted)! A great deal 😀

I chose the cheap-yet-delicious grilled cheese!

DSC02398

White cheese sandwich on the (almost burned) whole wheat bread.

It was actually pretty darn good!

DSC02399

A couple of mustard “squeeze packs” were added a little later. YUM!

🙂

I almost finished the whole sandwich! But I felt so stuffed at the end, I decided to take one of the two chunks of white cheese out. Not a big deal – I ate the most of it!

School was the same – only we had Chemistry class today, which is always fun. Gotta love experiments!

By 5 pm or so, I left the school and went to my cousins house. We were already waiting for grandpa for a while when I decided to give him a call. He simply told me he wouldn´t be able to make it!

😛

So I ended up wasting my lunch money to grab a cab for nothing at all. Grrr.

I quickly called Mom, and she told me to grab (another – the 3rd of the day!) cab back home. The final bill was around US$12. Not incredibly expensive, fortunately.

I was so TIRED when I got back home. Traffic was SO heavy – I spent almost more then an hour at the cab! The lights were starting to make me dizzy… And my head started to ache. Ew.

But I have to thank God I have a careful and amazing mother to pay me a cab on my way back home, and such a lovely and supportive family. I´m a lucky girl, really 🙂

The night was all about studies and blog-reading. Not a such bad deal, haha.

Dinner was eaten a little while ago –

DSC02412

A soy burguer patty (that tasted amazing, btw!), 2-halfs of baked sweet potato, carrot slices, steamed cauliflower, and…

DSC02411

The unreplaceable scoop of black beans (3 tbsp).

Altogether, now:

DSC02410

Gotta love homemade food. Jeez Louise!

😀

Hum, time to get back to my studies. Next test up – FRENCH!

I´m thinking of you, Gabs 😉

Have a great Tuesday, bloggies!

XOXO

G.

Smile More, Eat Less

Ok. Can we just talk about the title before getting into my weekend recap?

I was reading a gossip magazine at the beauty saloon today (**edited to add – it actually happend on Friday!), and I found an advertisement with this one simple sentence: “Smile More, Eat Less”.

I mean… WHAT THE HELL?!

I think it´s so wrong that advertisings like this get to be part of magazines. Ok, they were gossip ones, but stil… It´s just WRONG to tell someone to eat less and smile more! It´s such a STUPID and RIDICULOUS advice!

I´m sorry, guys. I think I´ve let it get to me too much… Oh, well.

How do you feel about this type of advertisment?

Let´s move on to happy things now…

I have a lot to say and a only a few minutes to spend(as usual)!

Friday was fun… I was so excited by the fact that I had a party to go to… 🙂

Breakfast

DSC02356

Recently-discovered love 🙂

DSC02358

1 sliced apple, 1 teaspoon of PB&Co´s Cinnamon Raisinn Swirl. YUM!

Morning Snack

DSC02359

Nature Valley´s Oats N´Honey granola bar.

Lunch

DSC02360

1 big chunk of baked butternut squash, sliced carrot, sliced tomato, grilled chicken, mashed squash and sprinkled grated beets, PLUS…

DSC02361

2 tbsp of black beans.

DSC02362

I think I fell in love! Haha 🙂

Dinner

DSC02369

2 slices of whole wheat with 2 tbsp of cottage cheese and an apple 🙂

After dinner, I went to the party –it was TONS of fun! I spent some time with friends I rarely see – unfortunately! Goofy-moment:

DSC02370

😀

Gotta LOOVE these girls!

When I got back home, I was a little hungry – so I managed to have some papaya and melon slices… Fresh fruit, y´all!

DSC02373

SATURDAY

Breakfast

I woke up by 10 am on Saturday… Which I regretted SO much, later on. I should´ve slept until noon! Haha 😉

DSC02374

Two words: terrific. combo.

DSC02375

~4 tbsp of cottage cheese, 1/2 cumbled granola bar…

DSC02377

And an apple.

DSC02376

Altogether, now. Can´t get any better 🙂

Lunch

After breakfast, I spent the whole day studying Physics. I´m not even kidding – I only paused for lunch at around 4 pm. The rest of the afternoon was all about STUDIES! Argh…

DSC02379

1 baked sweet potato, steamed califlower, tomato slices, sprinkled carrots and beets, and a side of 3 tbsp of black beans. Never gets old!

Dinner

Actually, I went to a party last night… It was my Aunt´s baby shower! The baby is due to May. I told her I think May 2th will be the big day… I just feel it 😉

They were making crêpes at the party! Obviously, I ended up trying one.

DSC02381

Heart-Of-Palms and Spinach crêpe with lettuce and (only a few, unfortunately) mini-tukey brest slices. Can you see the really small sprinkles…?

It was actually good! I know it´s the weirdest combo, but I swear it was really yummy 🙂

Night Snack

As I had eaten an early dinner, by 11 pm my stomach started to complain. So I cut some pineapple slices… Fresh n´Fabulous!

DSC02384

I know – my cutting skills are nonexistent. But the pineapple was totally worth it 😀

SUNDAY

Hum. Today was quite a day…

I woke up at around noon (I know – INCREDIBLE, right?), with my friend calling me on the phone. She needed some help with physics, so I quickly got up and started studying – for hours and hours! It was 2 pm before I knew it. And had completely forgotten about breakfast! This had never happend before!

This is weird. In a bad way :/

By 2:15 pm, Mom called – she said we would go out for lunch. I quickly took a shower and got dressed. When she arrived, though, Bruna asked out loud: “Did you have breakfast? ´Cause I didn´t see it.”

It was enough for my Mom to begin screaming at me. She said a million things… And made me feel like crap. I started crying so hard…

We fought and shouted at each other for a long time. It was awful. I hate discussing with Mom 😦

But let´s cut to the good part. Eventually, we agreeded to stop. When we arrived at the mall, things were still a little weird between us – she wouldn´t talk to me. After a while, though…

She said she didn´t want me be sick. And that she wouldn´t pay me salads, sandwiches or veggie combos – I should eat “real food”. Oh, crap.

We ended up at a buffet-style restaurant, where you only pay for what you´re eating. Obviously, she made sure I would fill up my plate. It was SO much food…

Lunch

DSC02388

Oh, yeah. Like I said – TONS of food.

In the “mix”:

-Steamed Cauliflower, Broccoli and Zucchini

-Chickpeas

-Cucumber and White Cheese Salad

-Heart-Of-Palms “Heart-y” Cupcake

-Red and Yellow Peppers

-1 (really tiny) slice of Grilled Salmon

-Salmon Lasagna

DSC02386

I gotta admit – it was good. But it was REALLY heavy! I almost could´ve lift up my tray…(ok, exaggerating a bit…But still)

With a Peach-Flavoured Iced Tea…

DSC02387

🙂

I´m glad I made up with Mom. She´s the best, and fighting with her is the worst thing in the world… I love her too much.

And then, last but not least…

Dinner

DSC02389

I´ve had two whole wheat toasts.

Toast One: melted white cheese.

Toast Two: 1 tbsp of cottage cheese.

DSC02390

And a drizzle of dijon mustard added a little later – LOVE!

And, for dessert…

DSC02391

Three gorgeous slices of fresh pineapple.

I´m addicted 😀

Anyhow – I need to get back to the grind! After lunch, we spent a few hours shopping… And Mom bought me the cutest pair of jeans 😀

Physics time!

Yippie…

Haha.

Hope y´all had an amazing weekend. And thanks for the latest comments, guys – you´re all too sweet!

XOXO

G.

YMIAJ

Hey, bloggers!

I hope you´re all having a great week, so far! I´ve been studying like crazy (thank God I´m done for this week…), and I don´t think I´ll have the time to post everyday like I once did…

The thing is: I don´t get how college students find time to blog. I´m in high school, and I barely have time to BREATH! My days have been based on school, studies, homework, gym, more studies, social projects and some more homework. How does that sound?

Anyway. I should be studying right now (since I have 5 tests next week – Physics 1, French, Maths, Portuguese and Physics 2. Seriously.), but I decided to blog today so I can study and go to a party tomorrow, guilt-free. It´ll be awesome 🙂

Anyhow… Let´s get going.

WEDNESDAY

Breakfast

Wednesday was THE DAY. For the first time in my life, I tried…

YMIAJ!

(YOGURT MESS IN A JAR! Haha)

I present you the magical ingredients:

DSC02326

Almost-empty PB jar:

DSC02328

DSC02327

The final product:

DSC02329

DSC02330

DSC02331

1/2 container of non-fat yogurt, 1/2 crumbled granola bar and PB leftovers.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE!

DSC02332

The BEST thing that ever touched my mouth. SERIOUSLY.

DSC02334

The end was painful. But I survived – knowing that I´ll have one of those again ASAP!

😉

Morning Snack

DSC02335

Leftovers: 1/2 granola bar

Lunch

DSC02336

Sorry about the bad quality!

This is actually a salad (hehe). In the mix:

Lettuce, grated beets, white cheese crumbles, turkey breast slices, sliced heart-of-palms, mustard.

I was definetely LOVING IT. Haha.

Dinner

DSC02339

Steamed cauliflower and spinach, grated carrots and beets, cooked butternut squash slices, 1 tbsp of mashed butternut squash, 1 small slice of grilled fish, 1 tbsp of bean salad, PLUS…

DSC02340

2 tbsp of black beans. A MUST.

😀

THURSDAY

Breakfast

This was a tribute to Gabriela, the sweetest blonde girl I´ve ever met 🙂

DSC02342

I gotta tell you, Gabs – this stuff´s AH-MAZING!

You were so right. Thank you SO MUCH for the gift 😉

Another divine combo:

DSC02343

The final product:

DSC02344

1/2 container of non-fat yogurt, 1 teaspoon of PB&Co Raisin Swirl PB and a sliced apple. HEAVEN!

And now you ask me – two spoons?

Hell yeah!

Hahaha =D

Morning Snack

DSC02347

1 granola bar

Lunch

DSC02348

1/2 a baked butternut squash (YUM!), a tukey meatball, steamed cauliflower, grated carrots and beets, plus…

DSC02349

2 tbsp of black beans. As usual!

I managed to get a lot of work done today. I even went to the gym – read an old magazine while at the elliptical and did some strenght training. And I don´t feel sore anymore! YAY for body adaptation!

Then, last but not least,

Dinner

DSC02354

A baked sweet potato, 1 tbsp of cottage cheese, 2 tbsp of bean salad, grated carrots and beets, 1 tukey meatball and 2 tomato slices.

YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM, as always.

I guess that´s it for now. I better start studying Physics – not my strongest suit!

Have a great… end of week, guys!

Weekend´s near!

😀

XOXO

G.
