Opening Up

Hey, there!

Sorry for being MIA both here and on you guys’ blogs – I just got back from a trip with my best friends. It was incredibly fun, and definitely the highlight of my summer vacation.

Aren’t they gorgeous? Plus, the boxer’s name is Scooby… From Scooby-Doo!

Spider Man was there, too

Let’s just pretend I can play soccer… Hahaha

We had a trampoline for ourselves! It really couldn’t get any better.

I also met a few friends of my friend Luiza… They turned out to be great girls 🙂

I had to choose between a trip with my family to attend my cousin’s 10-year-old party (at the beach) or a trip with my best (girl) friends to Luiza’s house, with her family. It was a 5-day-thing, but worth every discussion with Mom and Dad.

They were actually pretty worried because of Teresópolis’s floods (the city we were headed to was near to where the floods took place), but Mom ended up letting me so. Somehow, she and I knew I needed that. You know, a few days of “carefree-ness”, fun with friends, no overthinking… just being myself. And I find it so easy when I’m near these girls.

On our 1st night there, I decided it was time to tell them my “big secret”. They knew I had eating issues, but I never explained myself the right way. So I opened up and told them all about my ED. I told them I started having disordered thoughts since I was 11, that I gained an incredible amount of weight back, and then lost it all again on 2010… I also told them about my blog, what I felt at my darkest days, why they couldn’t find me on lunch breaks… Everything.

They decided to open up, too – so they started telling me about how they felt about it, how much they wanted to grab me, shake me and force me to eat, how worried they were that I would end up in hospital… Basically everything, too.

I knew that they would someday ask about what was going on with me. Sooner or later, they would find out. And the last thing I wanted was them to know it by a “third person”. It had to be me.

It felt so good, it felt to right. Telling them the truth was the best thing I could’ve done. I’m proud of myself, but I’m happy I have such understanding and loving friends. Their reaction could be awful, but they were incredibly supportive. We all cried together, and then all three of them gave me hugs (right after a big group hug), whispering “I’m so proud of you” on my ears.

Seriously, I never felt so blessed and loved. Just remembering that night makes me want to cry – of hapiness. I guess I do have the best friends in the world 🙂

Anyway – I hope you all liked my last post… Posting those pictures was kind of embarring, but really worth it! They made me remember so many different things, memories… It was definitely a fun and positive experience.

Now, onto today’s news: I “won” a giveaway!

I mean, not really. But Sarah from This Lunatic Express decided to send me one of her (incredible) zines for entering her contest. She’s such a sweetheart 🙂

After almost 17 days of (anxious) wait, it’s finally here! I’m SO excited!

She even let me choose my favorite one! “My Baggy Pants” and “By The Skin Of My Teeth – Issue Three” caught my eye. Finally, I decided that “My Baggy Pants” had more to do with me.

And I was SO right! I felt like I could relate to every single word I read. Sarah’s incredibly talented, and her life story was truly inspiring. I couldn’t stop smiling at the end! She definitely made my day 🙂

Glad you had fun… and I think the truths are the broccoli and the Oscar…

  15. I know it takes a lot of courage to tell people about an ED. Sometimes, telling the people you care about is even harder than explaining it to people you are not close to. I think it's great that you did it; I'm sure it made both them and you so much more relieved!

I'm glad you were able to tell your friends. That definitely takes courage.

I don't know which of yours is a lie but I actually do have a real Emmy on my mantle! (It's my husbands, he works for the news and they won it.)
